Things to improve #22

Since for the film me and Tyler are creating we have each or characters in which me and Tyler are the main characters I think my acting on the film for most of what we recorded could have been better, Honestly I have watched some video on YouTube to see on things I can improve on.( also when I said I have watched some videos I mean two videos).

One of the video basically explains how when first acting go on your instincts, or use tools such as what do you want to do, or what the character needs to do, and all those tools are just to make your instinct work for you, and to think what the other character should feel and making the character feel what you are trying to show.

Which describes 8 tips to better your acting and also emphasize the ability to connect to your character in a way, one of the tips is to were the right attire to connect with the character and video uses the example of model wearing jewelry. Another tip is the use music to affect the mood for example a sad scene means a sad song. The tip that resonated with me the most was the understanding of the character, basically what do you want the character vision to be.

Injured #21

I recently underwent surgery on my head, which took place on Wednesday, February 19th. The procedure was necessary to remove a small tumor from my head. As part of my recovery, I had to receive stitches at the site of the surgery. Due to these stitches and the nature of the operation, I have been given strict post-surgery care instructions from my doctors.

According to the note I received from my doctor, I am currently restricted from lifting anything heavier than 15 pounds. This limitation directly impacts my ability to engage in certain physical activities, including recording. Additionally, my doctors have advised me to avoid any activities that could cause me to sweat, as sweat poses a risk of infection to the surgical site. This means I must refrain from any physical activities until I am fully healed. Which according to the doctors I get my stiches removed march 3

These medical restrictions have unfortunately prevented me from being able to record as I normally would. They have also led to my absence on the day of the surgery, February 19th. As a result of that  I am not sure  of what I may have missed during that time.

I know this can be the cause for the production of the film and I might to find a way to record soon to get on track

dissecting a drama #20

I recently finished  watching  the series of Dexter, which is a basically a sociopathic character which he kills people who commit crimes that have not be punish by the legal system based on a code his adoptive father gave him and due to his antics his whole family suffers. Although dexter is drama series and due to my understanding of dramas I have gathered certain things that make a drama.

The show blends crime, psychological tension, and intense personal drama, keeping the emotional stakes high a hallmark of the drama genre. Also Story arcs each season typically has a central antagonist (Big Bad Guy ) that Dexter must outwit, all while avoiding suspicion from law enforcement and those close to him. These larger arcs create season-long suspense and emotional stake, which further more  hallmark the details drama genre.

Another factor to consider about dexter is the theme as the theme explores heavy themes like morality, justice, identity, and the nature of evil in which Dexter's struggle between his dark passenger( which is dark side or what drives him to kill people ) and also  his desire to appear normal creates ongoing tension.

One of the things that surprise me about dexter was on how good the close up shots were because they were able to capture the emotions that needed to express for example when dexter is about do something related to killing someone he was small smirk on his face that disappear quickly.

Another things are the over the shot shoulders which are still great in my opinion but not as good as the close up shots.

First Production(#19)

The first day we recorded we when to the saga bay park, to do our first recording day, Anthony who help me and Tyler record and also Matthieu who is another friend who help me and Tyler. The recording day started at the park we first talk a little about what we were going to record. We went to Tyler's house there we chilled for about half an hour just talking, Then another person Joined our group one of Anthony's friend Nick, and we recorded our first scene which was me and Tyler throwing a football.

later we all went to Anthonys house ( also the reason we choose the Saga bay park was because Anthony and Tyler live close by the park) in Anthony's house is were we filmed the next scenes, the first scene was going into like a private party in which you had to pay to get inside and lucky Anthony had a fake 100 dollar bill and we used so the, scene was me walking towards Anthonys house were Tyler recorded me nuking on the door and Matthieu and Anthony who were dressed in all black cloths with ski masks on let me in after I handed them the fake 100 dollar bill.

After that scene we had the last scene of day which was me sitting on a couch while pretending to be drinking what the audience will think its alcohol, Then we recorded a scene of me fake votting, and that was the first day the toughest scene for me was the fake scene which is some thing I will have to work on better not just for that scene but for the better result of the film.

Lighting and sound #17

In every film, one of the key parts for the film to be successful is the a small detail, that we sometimes we the audience forget is sound and lighting. Lighting and sound are key part of any film because they:

  • set the mood and the tone
  • affect the audience emotionally
This is important because a drama is a film that is based or one of its must important( frustrating part to do ) is show emotions that affect the audience .

Sound

The Importance of Lighting

The illumination in a scene stands as our most valuable filmmaking instrument. Specifically created to remodel the visual presentation while altering the entire character of a production segment. Proper illumination both creates mood and guides viewer attention and expresses real feelings in facial expressions. A movie looks unprofessional whenever lighting quality is poor which diverts attention from its original narrative.

how Sound and Lighting Work Together

The unified efforts of sound and lighting elements create life in motion pictures. When you pair excellent illumination in a scene with appropriate sound effects or musical background it enables a total transformation of audience reaction and experience. The emotional reaction to a sad film scene becomes so impactful  when viewers experience it under bright illumination combined with cheerful music as opposed to dim lighting with emotive music.

Possible script #14

At the moment I am writing the possible script for our film Tyler is busy so when I see him on school we are actually going to create a script and I hope it's good one. This is what I have created

So the this our script since the films is a drama, but more specifically it's going to be about someone going the wrong crowd and dying, so What I thought was that at the beginning of the film Anthony the friend that is helping us record will record us( Me and Tyler)  at the park so Tyler is going be wearing a hoodie and I will approach him asking for the usual which in this film is going to be illegal substances. Then foreshadows to the character being dead. That when film get interesting because where are going to show the steps of death of the character. Then the other scenes are going to show how the abuse of those substances or being surrounded by the wrong group of people are affecting the character. One Idea I had was Taking an sugar pill( which is only going to give us sugar rush or nothing at all) to show an example of the characters substance abuse for example. However this is only a possible script or a pre planning I am trying to show this Tyler and see what he thinks and work on it or change it for the better of the film.

This is the paragraph In scrip form

FADE IN:

EXT. PARK - DAY

[Anthony sets up the camera, recording ME and TYLER.]

TYLER is wearing a hoodie, standing alone. ME approaches him.

ME (approaching Tyler) Yo, you got the usual?

[Tyler nods and subtly hands over a small package.]

CUT TO:

EXT. PARK - NIGHT (FORESHADOWING SCENE)

[The screen fades to black and reopens to a shot of the character (ME) lying motionless on the ground. Dead.]

CUT TO:

MONTAGE: THE STEPS OF DEATH

  • ME hanging out with the wrong crowd, laughing, drinking, and using substances.

  • A quick cut of a sugar pill being taken (symbolizing substance abuse).

  • ME experiencing a sugar rush or showing no reaction at all.

  • Close-ups of the toll—tired eyes, paranoia, withdrawal.

  • ME struggling to function, alienated from old friends.

  • Final moments: ME alone, looking lost, realizing there’s no way out.

Intro into producing a drama #13

Introduction to Drama Production

Producing a drama scene is all about planning, creativity, and paying attention to details to bring out emotions and tell the story. For either a film, theater, or television production, each scene is expected to serve the narrative, build character, and create emotion on the part of the audience.

Which are going to be challenging since it only supposed to be 1 minute and 30 second film also the other things I have stated such as creativity, planning, attention to detail, and evoking emotions the hardest one I think.

1. Analysis of the Scene's Purpose

The cast and crew start by reading and analyzing the script to know what the idea is for -

  • What message or feeling will this scene let the audience appreciate?
  • How does it advance the plot or character development?
  • What conflict or tension is present?

2. Script Breakdown & Interpretation

Breaking down the script helps in understanding character motivations, and key moments. Directors often highlight subtext which is the unspoken emotions beneath the dialogue

3. Casting & Rehearsals

In drama, strong performances are crucial. You need a cast that has explored and researched how their character may feel or express emotion. Rehearsal or, in other words, practicing our script with tone, movement, and reactions to actualize moments so we get the best possible outcome for our film.

4. Blocking & Staging

Blocking refers to how actors move or position themselves about each other during the scene. It is necessary-no, a must-we consider the following:

  • Make the movement seem natural while serving the story.
  • Effectively use the screen space w/ an emotional meaning of it.
  • Have in mind what camera angle maintains what feeling upon the viewer's perception.

5. Lighting &Cinematography (For Film & TV)

Lighting really sets the atmosphere. Bad lighting can make almost any film rubbish-so here, the following should be taken essential:

  • Softness in lighting-intimate settings
  • Shadows high contrast adds tension or mystery.
  • Close-ups capture raw emotion, and wider shots establish setting and relationships.

6. Sound & Music

The sound design includes background music, ambient noise, and silence that enhances the emotional weight of a scene. A well-placed musical score heightens tension or underscores a character's inner turmoil; we have to be careful with these. I had an assignment in my media studies class in which I saw the importance of sound.
